I’m away for a few days so my brother is going to step in with a few songs until Monday. He’s six years older than me and is basically where I got most of my music taste. So don’t be alarmed. And enjoy the tunes.
In a genre full of gems this record TRULY is a gem. A funny thing has happened with power -pop over the ages, as a genre born of references and allusions, it's often cannibalized by the prevailing genres of the day. This leaves fans of the genre on a quest through the weeds of psych, garage, bubblegum, and yes, even metal- searching for those power-pop bands in sheep's clothing.
Candy is one of the great examples. Packaged and sold as a sort of fun in the sun Guns N’ Roses, what you discover upon listening to their 1985 debut album is one of the truly great power pop records of the 80s. Check out this charming interview with the band on the albums prom tour as they curate video and discuss some of their favorite music.
Thanks for listening,
Mike
