The year is 1963. You’re in your wood-paneled pad with your bikini-wearing girlfriend, dancing like the world is about to end. Your red bathing suit shorts couldn’t get any shorter. The phone is ringing off the hook. On the other end is your mother, calling you about a nearby and available life-changing amount of money. All you need to do is pick up the phone and answer and it would be yours for the taking.
But you don’t. Because you’re too busy dancing.
This describes one of my favorite scenes in one of my favorite movies. It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World from 1963. Dick Shawn and Barrie Chase play the dancing couple (see below).
This song is not in the movie. It has nothing to do with the movie at all. It’s not even really the type of music that is playing during this scene in the movie.
But, this song does make me want to dance/lounge around my nautical ‘60s pad with my girlfriend while I ignore all prospects of money.
Thanks for listening,
Will
