One of the first concerts I can remember going to was Fountains of Wayne at The Stone Pony. Like most concerts at that time, my older brother and his friends let me tag along with them. I could hear chatter around me about how this was the “Stacy’s Mom” band. And sure, they were.
But I remember being frustrated. Because they were so much more to me.
I remember sitting on the bus to middle school playing their self titled album on my ipod touch from front to back over and over again. I remember asking my music teacher to help me and my friends learn to play “Survival Car”. I remember fantasizing about playing “Sink to The Bottom” for a crush, hoping it’d win her over (I didn’t and it wouldn’t have). I remember thinking how cool it was that they were from New Jersey.
The pandemic took a lot of amazing people from us. One of which was Adam Schlesinger, a founding member, guitarist, bassist, and primary songwriter of Fountains of Wayne. 3 years ago today.
Thanks for the music Adam.
This song was always a favorite.
Thanks for listening,
Will
