I feel like everyone is always complaining about candy from their childhood being worse now.
The Wonder Balls are smaller and the prizes are worse, Buncha Crunch are less bunchy and cluster-y, Big League Chew is clumpy and loses its flavor instantly.
Its a sad sight. And whether a case of rose-tinted glasses or sugar limitations, candy just seems different these days.
All but one.
I’ve recently been making a shocking amount of visits to Economy Candy in the lower east side, and each time I’ve gone, I’ve grabbed a tiny packet of Pop Rocks.
Now, hear me out. I think Pop Rocks have gotten poppier. I’ve been amazed at just how much each purchase has popped and crackled in my mouth.
POP ROCKS ARE STILL GOOD!!!
This got me thinking about the Green Day song “Poprocks and Coke” and how those old Green Day songs that I fell in love with as a kid, much like the candy, are still good.
Thanks for listening,
Will
