The art of the cover song is one that can’t be put into words. At least not by an idiot like me.

From the “___ if it was played by ___” TikToks to the reinterpretations that rival originals, cover songs run a large spectrum.

This MJ Lenderman and Wednesday cover of “Perfect” by The Smashing Pumpkins falls right up there at the top of the spectrum. It’s always been a favorite of mine from SPs and I think it does the song a whole lot of justice, capturing that exhausted, sad, hopeful sound.
