What ever happened to Albuquerque, Tuscaloosa, Memphis, Detroit, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Mobile, Minneapolis, Atlanta, Atlantic City, Las Vegas, El Paso, Jackson and everything in between?
These places have all been the subject of songs before, but I don’t feel like I hear from them anymore.
Maybe its the death of regionalism, but when Neil Young sang about Albuquerque, when Gladys Knight & The Pips sang about the midnight train to Georgia, when Sheryl Crow sang about leaving Las Vegas, when Marty Robbins sang about El Paso, I felt a little closer to a place I didn’t know so well. And I liked hearing about what happened there.
I want more songs about more places.
Thanks for listening,
Will
