It’s Friday, and Mother’s Day is this Sunday, so I asked my mom to write about a song.
Apart from, you know, raising me, she’s also been a huge influence on my music taste.
Enjoy:
I was a pretty traditional mom raising 3 kids in the New Jersey suburbs in the ‘90s.
Eat your veggies, do your homework, and go play outside.
But things weren’t as they seemed. Unlike most suburban moms, my music preferences were non traditional. Influenced by my world views and life experience, I preferred music and lyrics that challenged norms and celebrated uniqueness. Much to my kids joy, I was punk rocker. So enjoy this pissed off lovable song; Eat your veggies and know your rights.
Thanks for listening,
Mom/Rose
First time I saw The Clash, there were so many dire warnings about “punk rock riots,” that the venue kept the house lights on for the whole show.
